Our Respiratory nurses provide routine monitoring of patients with Asthma or COPD and follow up patients after an exacerbation (flare up) of Asthma/COPD to try to prevent another exacerbation. We encourage patients with these conditions to be seen for a review at least once a year. We aim to work with you to find the most appropriate treatment leading to optimum symptom control. We also provide help, support and education for patients and families of those with respiratory conditions. There is good evidence that regular attendance at clinic and monitoring/education of patients regarding their condition reduces the risk of emergency admission to hospital.
Spirometry (if required) is a specialist test of lung function and is particularly useful to help diagnose and monitor COPD and is sometimes used in assessment of Asthma control.
If you are acutely unwell please make an appointment with your doctor who will deal with new diagnosis of suspected respiratory conditions and acute problems such as exacerbations (flare ups) of Asthma/COPD and chest infections.
